The Actor in You Series
K-9th grade
Minimum class size: 8 students
Maximum class size: 20 students
Every Semester, “The Actor in
You Series” explores worlds from literature.
In Fall of 2009, join your friends and Dare to Dream as we learn
acting and public speaking skills while we explore current issues through themes of the Fall 2009 Production of "Disney's High School Musical"
LEVEL 1: (K-1 grade)--
An introduction to imagination and creative dramatics. This level
encourages creative play and introduces value-based learning. Level One
students will enter drama through story and improv during every
session. The class will present one of their story explorations at the
end of their session.
LEVEL
2: (2-3 grade)
-- Studies the bare basics of stage and acting, focusing more on
breaking the "shy" barrier. This level introduces storytelling,
discovery and using one's imagination. Students will present one of their weekly story explorations at the end of their session.
LEVEL
3: (4-5 grade)
-- Students embark on an adventure
through literature and public speaking. Explore basic theatre skills
through study of Cross-Curricular Activities. Some
script work will be introduced. Students will present a sample of their work at the end of the session.
LEVEL
4: (6-9 grade)
-- As advanced students of the art, more emphasis is placed on
technique than on the exploration of literature. This level
defines the basic skills of acting at a more mature level. Setting and
achieving goals, exploring morals and working on one's ability to think
critically are emphasized. Students are exposed to short scenes and
fundamental stage skills are introduced while they sample scenes from
the current production of "Disney's High School Musical". Students
perform their scenes at the end of their session.
All
levels welcome new and old students alike, meeting each child on their
level while encouraging growth and learning. Each age group will
concentrate on the same skill set, but the activities and exercises
will vary by level.
Individuality is encouraged and all levels of experience are welcome.
Empathy, sensitivity and concern for others are heavily emphasized
throughout the series.
The session is running Fall 2008 on Sat. afternoons
at Dare to Dream Theater, 634 N. 10th St. (corner of 10th and St.
Clair) in
