All intern positions can be steps into a larger role with Dare to
Dream. Many teaching interns have gone on to become assistant teachers
with the Academy. As positions open on the staff, interns will be
invited to apply.
Dare to Dream offers internship in the following areas.
Teaching
intern positions are available with a class when
enrollment
reaches 12 students. The responsibilities of interns involve assisting
with a
younger class sometimes leading activities (such as zip, zap zop;
Giants,
wizards, and elves; Director says; warm-ups; etc) while the teachers
are
present and involved in the activity, handling check in and check out
at class,
and often taking a role onstage or backstage in the production
the kids
present at the end of class.
Stage
Management intern positions
are avialable with each Mainstage production. The responsibilities of
ASM interns involve assisting the Stage Manager as needed, being "on
book" during rehearsals, keeping record of where each actor enters and
exits and with which props and assisting with organization and order
during the run of rehearsals and performance.
Tech intern
positions
are available depending on the needs of the theater/production at the
time. Some interns help with building set and being on the run crew,
some assist with hanging and running lights and sound.
Directing
internship positions are
available with the Academy Series Productions. Interns will direct one
of the stories in the Academy Series production as a "director in
training."
Promotional/administrative
intern positions are available based on the needs of the
theater and the skills of the applicant.
Intern Levels
There are two levels of interns.
Youth
Interns are youth age 13 and above who have shown
interest, growth, and
responsibility through previous activities with Dare to Dream or
participants.
Such youth are nominated and submit an application to the board. After
review of the nominee's application and nomination, an interview is set
up with the program director to determine placement for availale
internships. Selected interns receive credit for classes at Dare to
Dream or a stipend.
Credit Intern positions are generally offered
to upper high school or
college student considering theatre as a career. Such students have not
only shown
interest and ability as well as determination, but also work well with
children and adults alike. Credit Interns receive school credit or a
stipend.
Intern
Alumni
Previous interns have remained involved in theatre
in one way or another.
Stacy Lorfeld, the
first intern was a college freshman theatre
major in 2002. After she graduated in 2005, she became a theatre
department administrator for Wisconsin
Lutheran College in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
Marina
Vilglitti was a home school student, sophomore in
high school in 2003. She has been seen onstage in roles at the Modjeska
theatre
in Milwaukee and is pursuing a degree in theatre.
James Freer
was in intern in 2004 when he was a freshman in
college and is now a Musical Theatre Major at Stevens Point. He worked
his way
into a position as a Dare to Dream teacher and choreographed small
combat
scenes for two Dare to Dream productions. He intends to pursue a career
in Stunts for film and television.
Jonathan
Porter was an intern in 2004 when he was a
freshman in college and is now a Theatre Major at UW Milwaukee. He
still serves
as one of the teachers in the Milwaukee area.
Christy
Zimmermann was an intern in 2004 as a junior in high
school and worked her way into a position as assistant teacher with
Dare to Dream. She has also served as Stage Manager for two of Dare to
Dream's productions in Manitowoc.
Samantha Moyer
was
a Milwaukee intern summer of 2006. She performed the role of Sarah
Crewe in Dare to Dream's first mainstage production and is currently
studying at Piux High School of the Arts in Milwaukee.
Catherine
Mercier was a Manitowoc intern summer of 2007. She has
performed onstage for numerous shows in Manitowoc.
Kelsie
Holtzheimerwas
a Manitowoc intern summer of 2007. She has performed the role of
Becky Thatcher in Tom Sawyer at the Capitol Civic Centre in Manitowoc.
IN fall of 2008 she payed the role of Kelsi Nielson in our production
of Disney's High School Musical Onstage.
Lizzie
Rouchelau
was a Manitowoc intern summer of 2007. She has many years expereince
with dance and has been seen onstage with Peter Quince Performing Co in
Manitowoc.
Each of these interns has been onstage in various roles
throughout high school and college and the community. Such Roles

with Stage West, Sarah Calder in

Car Children with Theater for Young
Audiences, John Proctor in
The
Crucible with Sheboygan Theatre Company, Mordred

would be King with Theater for Young Audiences, and
Sound of Music with
the Modjeska Youth Theater among others.
Privilege of
Interns
The
privileges of an intern involve a stipend,
discounts on other classes, one on one assistance with monologues and
scenes
from other teachers, and access to any resources that we may have. Many
times we
have helped interns with resumes, directed them to good headshot
photographers,
helped them find an agent, and shared information on auditions for an
acting
gig with them.
