An
introduction to the techniques used by professional actors.
Students will experiment with the popular Stanislavski method applied
to
a scene or monologue worked on during class. Scenes will be presented
on
the last day of class.
The focus of the class is on developing an understanding of why people
act
the way they do and applying that to creating realistic characters.
Learning
to uncover the clues in the script or in life to how what characters or
people
say or do reveals what they really feel and think is at the heart of
Stanislavski.
Students will explore creative approaches to understanding how to
recognize
the inner meaning that often lies beneath casual conversation,
qualities
that give a character a feel of reality, as well as more technical
aspects
of acting, such as memorization techniques.
In all, exploring the Stanislavski techniques while preparing to
portray
a character totally different from themselves on stage should develop
not
only acting skills, but give a better understanding of the ways that
others,
and themselves, express themselves.
This class involves outside work in memorization and worksheets.
